BRIDGING THE GAP!
LOVEMORE Bros’ Heavy Rigging division received a call from a long-standing client late afternoon on Friday the 29th of June. They required our rigging support in safely removing a pedestrian bridge section on the M4 South Bound Freeway. Municipal engineers were concerned and needed to bring down the section for assessment that had been damaged by an abnormal load which did not clear the required bridge height.
At 16h30 we were advised of the plans to close the road and by 18h00 this was already in progress. Avikar met with the client, assessed the site and speedily went off to prepare. Heavy Rigging operations was called and managed to put together a rigging team with gear to get to site before the road closure.
The crane, rigging and civil contractors stood by all awaiting notice that the roads were closed, which was finally arranged at 21h00.
Once the go ahead was given, all teams got into action, set cranes, lifting equipment and were able to bring the bridge section down safely by midnight. Municipal engineers deemed the bridge irreparable and civil teams immediately demolished the bridge for removal.
The job was carried out safely, efficiently and professionally. All contractors were complimented on the well-executed task.
