HEATHERBANK PROJECT ON THE LOVEMORE FAMILY FARM

HEATHERBANK Pre & Primary School is a private non-profit initiative aimed at providing education for learners primarily from the Walmer(Gqebera) Township. In 2012, the Department resolved to close down farm schools, so it was decided to rejuvenate the school under private management and in 2013 Chris & Ellen Lovemore under the auspices of the Lovemore Charitable & Educational Foundation Trust which is a registered NPO and PBO entity re-opened the school on their farm Heatherbank which was originally built in the 1970’s. Currently, the school has 220 pupils, having grown from 31 preschoolers in 2013.

With a committed team of educators, support staff and volunteers, the learners receive a well-rounded and supportive educational experience.

Today Mrs Lovemore still makes sandwiches for the children who attend the school so at least while at school they getting a meal, it’s not just about education, it’s about a community caring for each other and ensuring that future generations get the education and tools they need to be successful.
