Last November LOVEMORE BROS was contracted by a West Rand client to install a 2 400 ton injection moulder imported from Asia. The company was responsible for offloading the machine on-site and rigging it into position in the manufacturing facility.

The machine arrived on site in four 40 foot flat racks, five 40 foot high cubes and one 20 foot GP shipping containers. Offloading space was limited, requiring us to unpack each container and rig the machine components into the building in three hours to clear the offloading area to receive the next container. We achieved the tight timeframes and all the containers were unpacked without delays to the transporter.

We used our 200 ton hydraulic gantry system to lift the heavy components and the new 71 ton/m crane truck and 5 ton forklift for the lighter components. The injection moulder platens weighed 32500kg each and positioning them on top of the clamping base requires a high degree of accuracy. The hydraulic gantry system ideally suits this purpose as the lifting and lowering, forward and back and left and right movements are controlled to the millimetre. It also suits a factory installation as roof heights often limit the space above the machine for slinging.

In total, the machine weighed 157 tons and LOVEMORE BROS successfully installed the components in nine days much to the client’s satisfaction.
